It is understood that the Labour Party whips' Office was made aware of allegations many months ago, but did not take action. The 63-year-old Swansea West MP is currently a member of the House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee.

Labour MP Geraint Davies has been 'administratively suspended" from the party pending an investigation into reports of 'incredibly serious allegations of completely unacceptable behaviour'.

Allegations regarding the 63-year-old came to light in a report by Politico published on Thursday.

Sky News has seen evidence the Labour Party Whips' office was made aware of allegations many months ago, but did not take action. The party has been approached for comment.

Mr Davies was first elected as an MP in 1997, but was out of parliament between 2005 and 2010. He now represents Swansea West.

Shadow Immigration Minister Stephen Kinnock said "I would really urge the women who've been affected by this to come forward with formal complaints because if something untoward has taken place, we need them to formally make that complaint so that the whole thing can be investigated in an independent and an efficient and confidential way, based on treating their complaints very, very seriously. And I do hope that that will happen."

Labour MP Geraint Davies has been caught in a storm of sexual harassment allegations as one woman lays a formal complaint and colleagues open up about what was known about his behaviour.

Two women submitted formal complaints to the Labour Party after the report was published earlier on. It is understood one of them is a sitting Labour MP.

A former parliamentary staffer also made fresh allegations about Davies, saying the veteran backbencher made "inappropriate advances" towards her.

The "advances" happened when she was working as a young researcher in the early 2000s included "sexual comments and inappropriate touching" - and he only stopped after she threatened to tell someone.

Another of the party's MPs said she had heard numerous complaints from women regarding his behaviour "He's certainly made me feel uncomfortable over the years... just always standing too close and being weird."

Another two of his colleagues told how Davies had 'boasted' about bringing sex workers into parliament for drinks.
