Liam Temple, a disgraced former Mayor resigned from the council after he was convicted of a sex offence against a young girl.

Labour Councillor and former Mayor of Halton (Cheshire) Liam Temple - Convicted in 2004 of 'Inciting a child under 16 to commit an act of gross indecency after the 58-year old Labour pervert had attempted to molest a 12-year old girl. During the case, the brave youngster told the court via a video link "He said if I let him touch me he would give me money".

Temple, who represented the Castlefields ward, committed the crime in April 2004 and was arrested on November 16 of the same year.

Temple denied all of the charges he stood accused of, 'voluntarily' withdrew from council activities and promised colleagues he would fight until "the allegations made against me are finally concluded and I have successfully defended myself".



Outcome:

Temple was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on April 29. He was also be ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register.

The Labour councillor was, until his resignation, Chairman of the Prosperity and Equality Policy and Performance Board and was Halton's mayor from 1994 to 1995.

Halton Borough Council refused to discuss Temple's case, but in a short statement a spokesman said: "These are personal matters and are not matters within the responsibility of the council."

Councillor Temple tendered his resignation as the ward councillor for the Castlefields ward of Halton Borough. Leader of the Council Councillor Tony McDermott, welcomed Temple's swift action in resigning. He said: "Liam served the community of Halton well as a councillor over many years. This is a very sad occasion for all parties concerned.
