Sood, a former Leicester City Labour Councillor who caused a political storm by describing Gordon Brown as "the worst Prime Minister in History", pestered two schoolgirls for sex and indecently assaulted a young woman. Sood was accused of kissing a 22-year-old on her buttocks in the guise of "therapy", and offering to pay two girls, aged 14 and 15, to visit his home for "massages".
A prospective Labour MP who once said Gordon Brown was the "worst prime minister in history" posed as a masseuse to grope a young woman and pester two teenage girls for sex.
He was branded a "Dirty Old Man" by a judge at Leicester Crown Court after he admitted sexual assault and causing or inciting two teenagers to engage in sexual activity. "The psychiatric report makes it plain there's no connection between this and your mental health problems."
Divorced Sood, 40, hit the headlines two years previously when he stood as a Labour candidate for Norfolk North West but openly criticised Gordon Brown days before the general election. In an outspoken interview with his local paper he said "The loss of social values is the basic problem and this is not what the Labour Party is about. I believe Gordon Brown has been the worst prime minister we have had. It is a disgrace and he owes an apology to the people and the Queen."
The court heard Sood posed as a professional masseuse on website Gumtree when he met the 22-year-old woman in January last year. She went to his home in Leicester for a massage but when she arrived Sood led her to his bedroom telling her he was going to demonstrate "aroma and tantra".
He massaged over her clothes, fondled her and kissed her stomach. He then yanked down her leggings and underwear and kissed her bottom. His traumatised victim then fled his house.
Weeks later, Sood contacted a 14-year-old girl after she posted an advert on Gumtree seeking a part-time job. He offered to pay her £20 to lie down on a couch and have a massage but she refused. Sood continued to plague her with 27 phone calls and 15 text messages begging her to come to his home.
The girl told her friend what the paedophile Labour councillor was asking her to do for him. He sent scores of filthy text messages and phone calls of an explicit nature. The victim's friend got angry, so she rang Sood and told him to leave her friend alone. Manish Sood then asked her who she was and when he realised that she was a child too, he asked to meet her for a 'massage.'
"I will pick you up from school." he commented. "Can you bring condoms for me." He added, then he asked the child to wear toe rings. The filth poured out and the two children couldn't stop the Labour paedophile. Around 200 phone calls and text messages by Manish Sood were received by the children offering money for sex. He offered them £200 each, but obviously the kids refused.
When they realised he wouldn't go away, they contacted their teacher, who listened in on the phone conversation from Sood.
The Judge gave him a Three year supervision order and banned from being near children unsupervised. Manish Sood admitted in court his fixation for little girls. His mother, also involved with the Labour Council in Leicester as aid to the Mayor, stood by him throughout the trial, saying he was a "good man."
The court heard he also peppered the girl's 15-year-old friend with 26 texts and 152 phone calls in just three days asking her to meet him for "physical tantra". He also offered to pick her up for school and told her to bring "toe rings and condoms" with her. On one ocassion brazen Sood offered to pay the girl £200 in front of her horrified teacher.
When he was arrested he told officers he had "sexual motives" towards the schoolgirls but claimed he had taken medication which made him "forgetful."
Sentencing, Judge Michael Pert QC told him: "It's conduct of a dirty old man, and you're not even old."
Sood was slapped with a three-year community order with supervision and banned from having contact with children under 16. He was also ordered to attend a sex offender group work programme.
Robert Underwood, defending, said: "He's aware of the shame he's brought upon his family. His Mother is in court but his Brother no longer wishes to have anything to do with him. Another consequence is that he's lost his job."
"He's a hard working man from a caring family who are very active in their civic responsibilities."
The parents of the children swore at the Labour Councillor as he was found guilty of trying to molest their children as he was ushered quickly by security staff at Leicester Crown Court.
He refused to comment outside court.
